Expensive for what it does do

It’s well made easy to install. It was recommended to me because I have a PS4 pro and my tv is sadly 2k rez . I have Ben all over Google and forums trying to find a way to use that rez but sadly on PS4 pro not supported. I was recommended this and the YouTube video said it would allow me to run it as 4k but it would come out as 2k. Yea no. It did seem to crisp up the omg a little bit and in DayZ I don’t get random flicker but past that it doesn’t give me that nice 2k rez I get when I run my PC threw it. As far as product goes I could see this beeing a 50$ item for what elts it does but for what it is it’s way over priced.

It works well for breath of the wild!

The device works exactly as it says it does. It adds a good amount of antialiasing and sharpening to the game that I was playing, which was the legend of Zelda breath of the wild you can easily see that lings hat, weapons, shield clothing are all much sharper and much cleaner without as many jagged edges. You can also see that the trees in the distance, mountain tops, etc. are also without jagged edges. the device doesn’t seem to add any form of color correction or anything like that but that’s fine the device works exactly as it says it should to my eyes it feels as though I’ve bought a small graphical upgrade for my Nintendo, switch Dooley note and remember that you can buy the product and if you don’t like it, you can always return it, so I say there’s no downside by it give it a try if you like it great if you don’t return it.

Great for older consoles, not so much for new ones

I have a PS4, a Switch, a WiiU, and a Wii. I have tried it on each, and I can tell you if you have something like a PS4, Xbox One, or newer, don’t bother. I couldn’t tell any discernible difference on my PS4. It does smooth things out somewhat on the WiiU and the Switch. It’s not a miracle worker, it won’t make your Switch look like a next-gen console or anything, but it does smooth out some of the rough edges and make text look crisper and such. Now the problem may be with my HDMI switch, I’m not sure, but when using this with a Nintendo console I’ve noticed that my video signal keeps cutting out unless I connect the mClassic to the console itself. The PS4 works just fine when I connect the mClassic to the HDMI switch however. But where this thing really shines is when I connect it to my Wii in conjunction with a HDMI converter. The Wii doesn’t look all that great on a 50″ 4K TV, especially if you are playing old GameCube games on it. The mClassic makes these older games look MUCH better. Again, it’s not going to make them look like they were made for HD, but it definitely smooths out the rough edges and makes the games feel more like they did in their prime playing them on an old tube TV like they were originally designed. And for old games designed in the 4:3 aspect ratio, the retro mode is awesome. Flipping the switch is much easier than navigating TV settings to change the aspect ratio to 4:3 then back to 16:9 when you are done. I’ve pretty much just settled on leaving this connected to my Wii and switching between regular and retro mode depending on whether I am playing a GameCube game or not.In summary, is it worth it? If you only have a newer console, then no. But if you want to breathe some new life into your old retro games and play them on a modern TV and have HDMI converters, then yes!

Not bad, but not worth the money

Before I even get to the picture quality, I have gripes about two completely unnecessary irritations with the mClassic.1. As a big guy with big hands, I want to know who the imbecile was who decided to put the mode switch right below the grip, where it’s hardest to use? No freaking reason for it. And I’m only 6’4″, so I imagine there are a lot more people even bigger than me who are going to find it impossible to use, rather than just extremely irritating. I would also suggest making the switch bigger, and perhaps not using an led.And why we’re on the subject of the led….2. Why. Why. Why, why why why WHY is it that AV manufacturers feel the need to put lights on all of their products; lights that are on 24/7 and have no way of being turned off? You want a way to easily show what mode the device is on? Great, here’s a suggestion, if the mode changes, turn the light onto the appropriate color for 15-30 seconds, then turn it OFF. Similarly when the mClassic is powered on, or the device it’s connected to starts outputting video, turn the light on for 30 seconds so that the user can see it, then turn it off. It gets the message across, and it’s not a constant distraction. To be fair, it’s not as bright as the worst offenders, and to respond to the twits, who are going to say that I’m just whining and should just use those darkening stickers:a- those won’t work for this as the led is the actual switch, meaning there’s no flat surface I can put the sticker on.b- More importantly, this is a problem that should not exist in the first place.Regarding the actual improvements to picture quality; it’s… okay. I would say it’s does slightly better than the minimum required to justify it’s existence at all, but I’m sorry, it just doesn’t do enough to justify a price tag of $100.I will give them the benefit of the doubt though, and this isn’t a $10 part that’s been marked up 10x. In that case though, if no matter what I’m going to have to pay at minimum $100 for this thing, then I wish they would go the opposite direction and give me more for my money, even if it’s costs a little more. The simplest thing I can think of would be to embed this as part of an hdmi switch, with each input having it’s own separate mode switch. If there’s anything that can be done to improve the upscaling capabilities, go ahead and do that too.Yeah, this would probably be more expensive, but again, the idea is just to give us more features that makes that initial $100 hump easier to get over.EDIT Oct 2021: So after a few months of using it, I will say that while it’s not amazing, if I turn it off i notice a difference immediately. Still not sure that makes it worth $100, but at least I feel like there is benefit to it.I have found one issue with the device that is somewhat irritating. Whenever the device it’s connected to wakes up, it won’t always display the signal, and the only way Ive found to get it working is to use the switch on the side of the device, change it to another setting, then back to the one I want

Nintendo Switch Booster BUT Make Sure to set your console output!!!!

So let’s talk about using it on the Nintendo Switch! I notice alot of people using it wrong. You see the Switch’s native output is 720p and only can do 1080p when docked with upscaling processes done thru the dock itself. Games like Mario Kart and Breath of The Wild can struggle at 1080p on the hardware so uses Dynamic Resoltion to keep the frame rate up. What is Dynamic Resolution you ask?? Its when say a game runs at 1080p 30 FPS but when alot going on screen it will dumb down to 900p 30fps. It does this to keep the frame rate up. Otherwise if it stayed at 1080p then the frames could dip down to 24 or less which is very noticable to the naked eye.NOW in comes the M-Classic. In a nutshell it’s an upscaler with Anti-Aliasing effects. AA is a post processing effect that smoothes out edges of images by adding shades of grey to every block of 4 pixels, hence making lines look smoother. The M-Classic also Sharpens the image when complete to not make the images look blurry and does all this with 0 lag!! Soooooo in order for it to work properly you need to set your Switch to output 720p while dock. This can be found in the menu section of your Switch, and let the M-Classic do the upscaling and NOT the dock. You will get way better performance!SEE PICS ATTACHEDHere is Fall Guys running on the switch. In the 1st picture it’s running the M Classic OFF. You can see the “Jaggies” around the head and where the face comes thru. Also the White Face looks slightly pink due to color rendering from the switch to the monitor.Pic 2 in with it ON… You see not only did the AA smooth it and make it looker sharper but it also corrected the coloring making it appear a truer white.NOW IS IT WORTH IT???In a nutshell… YES but not for $99 retail. The difference is subtle and may only make hardcore enthuatists happy. To the average player the differences may be to subtle to justify the price. I got mine on Prime Day for $79 and that would be the MOST I’d pay it. I’d like to see this priced at $69.99 and stay there. I think thats the perfect price for this accessory.
